When it comes to State Representatives, the responses are typically much more brief and to the point. Why those on the Federal level find it necessary to ramble without providing a clear stance can be frustrating. Our latest response is from State Representative Charles Jeter of North Carolina's District 92. With the growing number of bills originating in several different states that look to go against the protection of the U.S. Constitution, the legislation at the state level could be a much bigger hindrance to our rights than what you may find in Congress.
Thank you for your email and you concerns regarding any attempts at gun control measures.
I think any legislative body has to be very careful reacting to incidents like the tragic one in Newtown, CT when making permanent laws. As such, I am always very leery of being a part of any effort to make such reactionary laws. As of today, I know of no efforts to change any existing gun laws in North Carolina. However, I am a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment and would be cautious of any effort to weaken its effect.
Should you have any questions or need any additional information, please email me at Charles.Jeter@ncleg.net.
