Robo Cheetah Goes For the Gold

In 6 months, Boston Dynamics robotic Cheetah, developed for DARPA has gained 10 mph in speed, bringing it up to 28+ miles per hour. They have made the comparison to Usain Bolt, the olympic gold medal sprinter who tapped out slightly under the 28 mph mark in the 100 meter race, but not quick enough to catch this metal beast. While the video comments are always good for some conspiratorial goodness, DARPA notes that the robot is being developed for emergency response and humanitarian aid. Clearly quicker is better in a crisis and the robot will be able to negotiate terrain much better than your typical wheeled or tracked vehicle.
