Karatas Man Boarding Robot

We thought we watched a bit too much Robocop if there is such a thing. Apparently one Japanese designer, Kogoro Karata has taken the concept of a massive operational robot to the next level with a fully functioning human piloted robot. The metal giant is controlled by a dual hand joystick and also functions like a vehicle with four wheels.

While Suidobashi Heavy Industry is marketing their robot as a customizable work bot that can mop floors or man a fire hose, it is not difficult to see the real wow factor they are playing up. With a dual Gatling guns (shoots plastic BB's), iron claw, bullet resistant armor, different weapons add ons, as well as remote control capabilities, you can see where they are looking to make the big bucks.

The video below gives a complete overview on their prototype which towers over the masses at 13+ feet and weighs in at just under 5 tons. With all the options on the market, $1.3 Million seems to be a steal if they can deliver on maneuverability, ballistic protection, and actual weapons capabilities. For some reason we think this will just be another display piece for electronics conventions, but they are looking to present their bot for full scale robot battles. Video slightly not safe with song language.
