The Tank Automotive Research , Development and Engineering Center opened their new lab in Detroit, Michigan yesterday. The Ground Systems Power and Energy Laboratory (GSPEL) will help produce the new manned and unmanned Ground vehicles for the US Army. They will be seeking out hybrid electric vehicles that are energy efficient and operable in various conditions.

The facilities have eight different laboratories focused on all aspects of testing the vehicles performance including battery systems, fuel cell development, power systems, heat exchange, air filtration, and hybrid electric component development. The video provided below gives a quick tour as put on during the grand opening of the laboratory including a quick glimpse of a cooling vest they have in development for soldiers. Hopefully these labs will develop improvement in ground systems that exceeds current vehicles maintenance of existing technology.
