Marines Training in their Bread and Butter

The current exercises along the Atlantic seaboard of the United States involving U.S., Dutch, and French Marines, as well as U.S. Sailors from Riverine Group 1 is a return to the roots of amphibious assault, which is what much of these forces are all about.

With the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan diverting the immediate need for such exercises, due to the overriding utilization of the U.S. Marine Corps in land based operations. Potential threats where such operations would be needed are numerous, so proper training exercises like Bold Alligator and others like it can be quite valuable in the overall picture of defense.
