New Boots from Danner: SOBO Mid Hiking

Rolling through the New Year, Danner has been introducing their latest designs including several great Military and Uniform geared boots. The Melee line looks great and with GORE-TEX waterproofing materials they are bound to be a high quality option for various terrains including Mountain and Desert Options.

When we saw the SOGO Mid Hiking boot, we could see a lot of versatility that spread across multiple interests from weekend warrior hikers over to long haul trekkers that go transcontinental in their range hopping pursuits. But, this boot could also carry over to professional use whether it be among Border Patrol, Tactical Teams, or Military Personnel.

Danner SOBO Mid Hiking Boot
The SOBO Mid weighs in at a relatively lightweight 2 Lbs 10 Ounces and features a combo of suede, nubuck leather, and Nylon for very durable upper that breathes well with several areas for venting. The footbed wicks moisture from the feet to keep them dry and cool. They are designed for long haul trails with the South Bound Appalachian Range as their key focus for the design. This carries over to what they call their Appalachian outsole which helps keep you on your feet in loose dirt or rocky conditions.

Overall hiking boots should provide you with stability, comfort, and protection from the elements. These look like a great lightweight option for fast athletic endeavors. The boot provides plenty of protect for high impact with a TPU plate molded in with a well cushioned EVA Midsole. This combo will be good for some fun running or long haul packed hikes. Sure they are not waterproof and have a bit of color, but we like boots that breath and can dry quickly, and the overall aesthetic is definitely not hippy dippy like with some designs. We will look forward to see what the response is, but these could definitely give Merrell and some of their competing hiking boot manufacturers a run for the money.
