Gains on Lightweight .50-Cal XM806

This Machine Gun has been in the works for quite some time and recently hit a snag with a faulty primer. However, the Army Times reports the XM806 cuts the weight of is predecessor the M2 by over 60 pounds and has an effective range of over 1.25 miles, so they are forging forth to get the job done in bringing this .50 Caliber to their Soldiers.

It is also noted that they are cutting the weight on the XM205 tripod in which this "heavy" machine gun will be mounted by 13 pounds, reducing the combined wait of the system by nearly 45%. It also provides the XM806 with the capability for a very low profile firing position.  With the Army looking for a lighter more effective fighting force, this weapon system will be well worth the wait even if projected deployment is not   expected around 2015-2016.
