Smoking My Whiskey for Father's Day

I don't typically grab a product simply for its Name Brand, however seeing these wood smoking chips at the store along with Jack Daniel's charcoal briquettes, I couldn't help but pick up the bag and give it a sniff. They did not let me down with the Jack Daniel's Sun Flower seeds, so know I know they look to put out the best products

Sure enough, this is not just an expensive label, and you know it is the real deal when you smell the sweet Tennessee whiskey wafting through the plastic bag. I like to mix a little Jack or whatever whiskey I have around with some Apple Cider Vinegar and Olive Oil to spray on my ribs. This gives the ribs a nice baste while they cook, so why not let my pork have a smoke with its drink.

Jack Daniels matures its whiskey through sugar maple charcoal before barreling in toasted oak for aging. Turns out they now chop up some of these whiskey soaked barrels and sell them to folks like me who like to try new things out on the BBQ. Hoping this subtle flavor will carry over to the meat, but just getting the wiff of Jack floating around the backyard is reason enough to give it a go. Perhaps one day my kids will say, "Damn right my Dad smoked it".

Happy Father's Day to all of our Troops, especially those that can't be with their children on this day.
